Minnesota SCI Supports Gray Wolf De‑Listing

Very few conservation issues stir up as much emotion as the "threatened" status of the gray wolf under the Endangered Species Act. By all measures set by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the grey wolf populations in Minnesota and the western Great Lakes states have recovered, yet the management of these species remains in federal control. Despite overwhelming scientific evidence that the wolf population has recovered, the de-listing of this species has been continually challenged on procedural and technical grounds, rather than on what is best for wolf conservation.

Minnesota SCI, along with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, and numerous Minnesota conservation organizations, has signed on a petition urging our legislators to pass legislation in the House and Senate that would effectively turn wolf conservation back over to the states. This includes supporting bills HR 6029 and S3919 in the House and Senate. We encourage all of our members to show their support for returning the right to manage wolves back to individual states by contacting their representatives.
