SafariWish™
The SafariWish is designed to grant hunting and hunting-related wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The SafariWish process includes identification, assessment, and implementation.
Identification and Referral
Initial calls, e-mails, letters, faxes, and word of mouth may come from the child, a parent or guardian, a health-care professional, or an SCI national or chapter member. Early in the identification/referral process, the immediate family must be notified of the SafariWish.
Assessment
Any person with a life-threatening illness may qualify for consideration of a SafariWish.
The person's health-care professional makes the critical determination of whether the person is medically eligible to receive a SafariWish, and also determines if the person is able to participate in the SafariWish.
It must be shown that the person:
- Identifies a SafariWish, or lists several to choose from,
- Is medically eligible and able to participate in the SafariWish
- Must be legally present in the United States,
- Must be old enough to acquire a legal hunting license and, if required, pass a hunter education course,
- Due to sporting demands, must be stable and alert.
